Camp life

Six activities a day. A campfire every night.

Every session at Riverview mixes the things she chooses with traditions she'll never forget, in a Christian setting where every girl hears, “We're glad you're here!”

What can campers expect?

I'm going to Riverview!

Every session is a good fit for new and first-time campers. Staff make sure each girl knows where to go, what to do and how the schedule works, and she quickly picks up the Riverview spirit. We call it the Power of Riverview.
  • 1To have one of the most memorable summers of your life!
  • 2To do amazing things you never dreamed you could do!
  • 3To make mistakes when you try new things, and not feel bad about it!
  • 4To make friends you'll want to spend your summers with for years to come!
  • 5To hit the target… better yet, the bulls-eye!
  • 6To swing through the trees and feel the air brush your face!
  • 7To smile non-stop!
  • 8To learn what it means to truly be you!
  • 9To enjoy all of God's creation and feel close to God!
  • 10To come back someday as a counselor!
  • 11To say thank you to whoever sent you to Riverview!
  • 12To cry when you leave.

Teams & traditions

Once in a team, always in the team

On opening day every new camper joins the Archers, the Monarchs or the Thunderbirds, and she belongs to that team forever. If her mom, grandmother, sister or cousin was on a team, she can join it too.
  • Archers
  • Monarchs
  • Thunderbirds

Teams compete in tennis tournaments, swim meets, the Riverview Olympics and more, with team songs and cheers led by older campers who serve as team leaders. Win or lose, good sportsmanship is what counts.

  • Nutty Buddies

Each session every camper gets a camp sister, named for the nutty buddy ice cream once served at the end of the evening. Camp is nut-free now, so she is a Nut Free Buddy, but the friendships last for years.

  • Theme days

Mentone or Monogram Monday, Tie-Dye Tuesday, Wacky Hair Wednesday, Favorite Team Thursday, Favorite Riverview Tee Friday and Silly Sock Saturday.

  • Show Night

Cheerleaders, dancers, flag twirlers, singers and the Riverview Refinement fashion show take the stage for the whole camp at the end of the session.

  • River Reflections

On closing evening, after a special banquet, the camp gathers by the river for a symbolic campfire. Each cabin shares a cabin wish and Mrs. Susan gives a parting message.

Faith at camp

Awareness of God's presence in everyday life

Riverview is an inter-denominational Christian camp with a balanced approach to faith. Through our natural setting, wholesome friendships and the example of enthusiastic Christian staff, girls leave camp better able to make good decisions.
  • Morning WatchOur day begins with quiet reflection in a wooded setting, led by a counselor or staff member.
  • Vesper campfiresA nightly tradition of group singing and an inspirational talk around the fire.
  • Sunday worshipCampers dress all in white for an interactive service in the gym with a guest speaker and a music worship team. Catholic campers can attend Mass at Our Lady of the Valley in Fort Payne.
  • River ReflectionsOn the closing evening of every session, the whole camp reflects one last time on the summer and gives thanks to God.
